The Man Behind the Band

Born and raised in Liverpool, Gary McDonnell learned music playing the trombone, but soon discovered the potential of a drum kit. Headphones on, he would play to Led Zeplin and other 70s groups. Warner Brothers signed him and his group when he was only fifteen, and was given the taste of studio life in London. But that was a short-lived experience, with their manager deciding he had better investments to make with the money advanced by the label. Back in Liverpool, he never desisted and went on to play with some of the best the city has produced: The Las, Echo and the Bunnymen, and had a number one with Mansun. Real life took over for the following twenty years, and music only came back recently when a window opened to free some time up and get back in a studio.
